We encourage your participation in our critical work by joining us to donate your time, expertise, and financial resources to make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes.
Virginia Diabetes Council has three distinct focus groups you can join — Diabetes Prevention, Diabetes in Schools, and Increasing DSME Capacity.
This group works to improve public competency to reduce personal risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes by increasing awareness about prediabetes, risk factors for, and consequences of diabetes. In addition, we work to increase awareness of lifestyle change programs to the public and providers across Virginia.

Diabetes in Schools
Help provide documents such as the Virginia Diabetes Medical Management Plan, ensuring a standardized care for children with diabetes in school systems across Virginia. Members would also speak with legislators and institutional leaders to support policies and laws that focus on students with diabetes.

Increasing DSME Capacity
DSME stands for Diabetes Self-Management Education. If you were to join this focus group, your priority would be improving program availability and sustainability of diabetes across the state, as well as awareness of diabetes management to all Virginians.
